The warning follows a joint inspection in Mumbai, where a vada pav vendor was found using newspapers for food service. FSSAI stated that printing inks contain chemicals, pigments, and heavy metals such as lead that can leach into food. Newspapers may also be contaminated with dust, dirt, and harmful microorganisms during handling and distribution. The practice is already prohibited under the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018. Food businesses have been directed to switch to approved food-grade packaging materials. Consumers have also been advised to avoid purchasing food served in newspapers.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has reiterated its ban on using newspapers for wrapping, serving, or

[1

post-1588","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
