The amendment omits Clause (8) of Sub-regulation 2.3.14 of the 2011 regulations. Earlier, salseed fat was permitted only for bakery and confectionery products under specific storage, refining and labelling conditions. The revised norms follow a draft proposal issued in 2024 seeking public feedback. FSSAI said the amendment aims to simplify regulatory compliance for Food Business Operators (FBOs). Salseed fat is widely used as a plant-based alternative to cocoa butter in confectionery manufacturing.
