Rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, and flooding are increasing the movement of contaminants into agricultural soils while creating favourable conditions for the growth of harmful foodborne bacteria. At the same time, pesticide residues, heavy metals, and other chemical contaminants are adding new risks that conventional food safety testing alone may not detect. The growing prevalence of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria further complicates treatment of foodborne infections, making illnesses more difficult to manage.
