Food safety officials in Gujarat seized over 3,500 kilograms of artificially coloured fennel seeds during a surprise raid at an illegal factory in Unjha, Mehsana district. Acting on a tip-off, authorities found operators mixing stale, low-grade fennel seeds with a harmful non-edible green chemical dye to make them appear fresh and premium quality. Officials also confiscated nearly 140 kilograms of the raw chemical used in the adulteration process. The factory was reportedly functioning without a valid FSSAI licence. Samples of the seized products have been sent to state laboratories for chemical analysis. Authorities stated that strict legal action will be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act for risking public health.
