FSSAI Suspends Westend Agro Products’ Licence Over Label Fraud

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the food business licence of Westend Agro Products Pvt. Ltd. after an inspection uncovered serious food safety, labelling, and regulatory violations at its facility. Officials found evidence of alleged tampering with manufacturing and expiry dates, fraudulent relabelling of packaged food products, misleading product declarations, and other non-compliances with the Food Safety and Standards Act and Regulations. During the inspection, authorities also seized printing equipment, labels, packaging materials, and related items suspected to have been used for altering mandatory product information and extending product shelf life. Based on the findings, FSSAI suspended the company’s licence with immediate effect and initiated further regulatory action. The regulator stated that such deceptive practices pose a serious risk to consumer safety and undermine confidence in the food supply chain. It further reiterated that strict enforcement against food businesses involved in misbranding, adulteration, and fraudulent labelling practices will continue to ensure compliance with food safety standards and protect public health.
