FSSAI Orders Immediate Ban on Metallic Pins in Food Packaging
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed all food business operators to immediately stop using metallic pins, staple wires, and similar materials in food products and packaging. The regulator said such materials are being used in cakes, bakery items, takeaway parcels, snack packets, and food boxes, posing a serious food safety risk if accidentally consumed. FSSAI warned that metallic pins can cause injuries and adverse health effects and instructed businesses to adopt safer alternatives for sealing and fastening packages. The authority stated that non-compliance will attract penal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and related regulations.
