IFBA Calls for Science-Based Discussion on Food Ingredients
The Ind Food and Beverage Association (IFBA) has called for a science-based and regulatory-driven discussion on food ingredients, including palm oil, amid renewed public debate on vegetable oils used in food products. The association stated that all edible oils and fats are safe when they meet prescribed food safety standards. It urged consumers to rely on scientific evidence and product labels instead of misinformation. IFBA highlighted that India’s packaged food and frozen dessert sectors are witnessing steady growth under a robust regulatory framework. The association emphasised the importance of balanced diets, portion control and moderation in food consumption. It also noted that palm oil has a balanced fatty acid profile and contains beneficial nutrients. Former FSSAI director Asim Choudhary said food safety regulations clearly define standards for products made with animal fats and vegetable oils. IFBA urged consumers to make informed food choices based on science and product categories.
