FSSAI Withdraws Fruit Juice Testing Method, Adopts Global Standards

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has withdrawn Method No. 2.11, the standard analytical procedure used to determine fruit content in juices under the Manual of Methods of Analysis of Foods for Fruit and Vegetable Products. In an official directive, all FSSAI-notified food testing laboratories across the country have been instructed to immediately adopt validated international analytical methods until a revised official method is approved. Laboratories may use recognised standards prescribed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), AOAC International, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Food Chemicals Codex, and analytical references such as Pearson’s and Joslyn. The regulatory change aims to ensure uninterrupted testing of commercial fruit juice samples, maintain quality control, and avoid delays in laboratory analysis while FSSAI finalises a new standard testing protocol. However, the authority has not yet announced a timeline for introducing the revised method.
