Maharashtra FDA Issues Strict Compliance Order for Dairy Sector

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a comprehensive compliance order for the state’s milk and milk products sector to strengthen food safety and curb adulteration. The new guidelines apply across the entire dairy supply chain—from milk collection centres and dairies to transporters, distributors, wholesalers, and retailers—and consolidate existing regulations into a single framework for uniform implementation. Violations such as milk adulteration, operating without valid licences or registrations, misleading advertisements, and false product claims could attract penalties of up to ₹10 lakh, along with other regulatory action. The order also mandates traceability, cold chain maintenance, food-grade equipment, and adherence to food safety management practices to improve transparency, ensure compliance, and protect consumer health.
