FSSAI mandates ‘vegan’ logo on approved food packages from July 2027

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has mandated the use of a standardized vegan logo on all approved vegan food packages, effective from July 1, 2027. Introduced through an amendment to the Food Safety and Standards (Vegan Foods) Regulations notified on May 21, 2026, the logo features a green “V” with a sprouting leaf, symbolizing products that are free from animal-derived ingredients. The initiative aims to establish a uniform national identity for vegan foods, improve transparency in labelling, and help consumers easily distinguish vegan products from conventional and vegetarian foods. Experts believe the regulation will reduce consumer confusion, prevent misleading claims, and enable informed purchasing decisions. The move is expected to strengthen consumer confidence while supporting the growth and innovation of India’s expanding vegan and plant-based food sector.
