FSSAI Cracks Down On Misleading Claims By Alcohol Brands
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to alcoholic beverage manufacturers over alleged regulatory violations related to the unauthorised use of added flavouring substances and misleading age-related claims on product labels. The action concerns possible non-compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the applicable labelling regulations governing alcoholic beverages. FSSAI has directed the manufacturers to submit their explanations and ensure strict adherence to the prescribed regulatory requirements. The regulator’s action aims to strengthen truthful labelling, enhance transparency in product representation, and safeguard consumer interests through stricter enforcement of food safety standards.
